Italy is dotted with places of art you wouldn’t expect, where you’d never expect. Those are the sites of contemporary art, often less known, perhaps less understood, but no less iconic and stunning.
To tell their story, Italia Contemporanea, a four-episode series produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, realized by TIWI in cooperation with Sky Arte, and conducted by the art critic and journalist Nicolas Ballario. Each episode is dedicated to a specific theme: Metropoli about big cities; Open Air about outdoor art installations; Vecchio e Nuovo about contemporary artworks found in historical sites; and Off Road trailing off the beaten path.
A red door is the recurring element in the series, seen as a getaway to a contemporary dimension and allowing Nicolas to move from the studio to the location – especially where a guest is waiting for him. And, respectively, the guests for these four episodes will be: Marinella Senatore; Piergiorgio Castellani, who, together with Keith Haring, is responsible for the mural Tuttomondo in Pisa; the art historian Angela Vettese and the Director of the Centro Pecci in Prato, Cristiana Perrella.
Each episode will be enriched by an animation clip retracing the life of a contemporary artist starting from one of their masterpieces.
